Write Winning Articles for Magazines, Newspapers and Websites by Amy Abrams

Learn to write first-rate articles, so editors will hire you—not just once—but again and again. Many components comprise compelling stories. You’ll finesse story angles, acquire professional interviewing techniques for strong quotes, and hone your voice to develop a recognizable style in this one-day intensive, but enjoyable, workshop. Tricks of the trade are taught by a former publishing executive, now a professional freelance writer with hundreds of articles published in national and regional magazines, as well as newspapers. One-on-one feedback will help you cultivate your craft and create stories that sell.

Class size strictly limited to 15. Registration required. Call 301-654-8664. All levels welcome.

AMY ABRAMS had a 10-year executive publishing career in New York City at Art & Antiques magazine and in Washington, DC, as Associate Publisher of Museum & Arts Washington magazine, before publishing over 200 stories in magazines and newspapers as a freelance arts writer including Art in America, The Wall Street Journal, Village Voice Media and National Public Radio’s magazine. During a stint in Scottsdale, Arizona, she contributed stories to national and regional publications including Southwest Art, Native Peoples and Arizona Highways; covered the arts for Scottsdale Tribune newspaper; and had a monthly column in a national newspaper. A sought-after university and museum speaker, she lectured about magazine writing to students at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. Following her newfound passion—fiction writing, her short stories have appeared in Denver Quarterly and Hobart. Currently, she is co-fiction editor of Delmarva Review—a literary journal. Her debut novel, The Cage and The Key, was released this year. Her non-fiction book, a 200-page coffee table book about an acclaimed Pop artist, Schenck in the 21st Century: The Myth of the Hero and The Truth of America, also was published this year.
